Learn more about Lake Monroe

Lake Monroe is the second largest lake in Seminole County and a major component of the St. Johns River system. The historic and quaint port city of Sanford is situated along the southern shore, while DeBary and Deltona lie to its north. The last decade has seen a dramatic revival in Sanford's downtown, waterfront and neighborhoods. Nestled among the overhanging oaks and brick lines streets of the historic districts you will find many large, lovingly renovated properties lending the town a distinctly “old Florida charm.” Sanford, known as the "Historic Waterfront Gateway City," is 160 miles upriver form Jacksonville and also the county seat for Seminole County. It is home to Seminole State College and the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Its downtown area is filled with quaint shops, restaurants, a marina, and a lakefront walking trail. The nearby Orlando-Sanford International Airport, functions as the secondary commercial airport for international and domestic carriers into Central Florida.
